Krabi, Thailand – Oct 2018
After going to the Maldives a couple of times in recent years, we were over the long haul because you lose the first day or two of your holiday with jetlag. This time, on our way to the Maldives we stopped in Singapore for a night and then flew to Krabi for a 2 night chill.
With the flight leaving Singapore mid morning, it gave us a relaxing afternoon to get familiar with the area. Did mostly strolling that afternoon which built a thirst and hunger for the evening.
Stayed at the Golden Beach Resort Hotel which is situated right on the beachfront with restaurants, bars and shops a short stroll away. It was an older style hotel but with some lovely touches. We opted for an inexpensive upgrade to the Executive Pavilion Sea View room situated at the front of the Hotel facing the beach. Very spacious room with an open air bathroom that always makes you feel just a little special.
Ao Nang Beach
The beach itself faces west so once the sun starts to set, the whole beach becomes a bit of a scene with everyone wanting to get that unique “money” shot for their Instagram. If you start early enough, you can get one of the prime seats at a beach bar or you can just stand on the beach in front of everyone. We of course joined the circus.
The next morning was spent strolling a bit more before getting picked up just after lunch for an afternoon Sunset Cruise. After a bit of a joyride to get to a wharf, we boarded a very cruisy sailboat and moved into open waters. Lots of nice scenery and stopped at a couple of places to dive. Although the water wasn’t all that clear, we were still able to get some pictures and video of some marine life.
Got to see another magic sunset and had some dinner before moving on to a cave where we could see the glowing plankton lights under water. An interesting sight. Nice way to spend a relaxing afternoon and early evening.
Flew back to Singapore late the next morning before moving on to the Maldives the following day.
Following is a movie I made of the trip showing the basic highlights. The water wasn’t very clear but the fish were still cute. Plus, we found him!
